High-protein trail food

Chocolate and nuts give a lot of energy, but little protein per gram. Here is what you carry, per 100 g.

Energy or protein?

If you want the most energy per gram, nuts and chocolate are best: peanuts give 623 kcal per 100 g. If you want the most protein per gram, P60T is best in the table: 39.7 g per 100 g, or 71.5 g of protein and 740 kcal in one 180 g pouch.

The milk powder is in the pouch, and so is the spoon. You only need 300 ml of water.

How much protein do you need on a trip?

The same as usual. For active people, sports research recommends 1.4–2.0 g per kilo a day3. The protein calculator works out your own need.

On a full day outdoors, you use more energy than on a normal day. The calorie calculator works out how much, with the activity level “very active”.

Tool: pack for protein

  • Count per 100 g, not per pack. It is the weight you carry.
  • Take nuts and chocolate for energy, and something with a lot of protein for the main meal.
  • P60T: 180 g, 71.5 g of protein and 740 kcal. Add 300 ml of water, stir and eat.
